New Laminate Designs Blends the Best of Both Worlds

Temple, Texas – Wilsonart Flooring has launched a new residential laminate flooring design collection featuring exotic woods from Asia, Africa and South America. The new line includes 10 plank and 15 tile laminate flooring designs including Tropical Wood, Hawaiian Bamboo, Natural Stone Finish and Slates. The new laminate flooring design collection remedies many of the issues surrounding the use of natural flooring including inconsistencies in color and texture, time-consuming maintenance and the destruction of worldwide rain forests. The new designs are available in Wilsonart’s Classic and Estate Plus premium laminate flooring lines.

“Exotic woods are growing in popularity. Bamboo in particular has built a solid reputation as a highly prized floor covering,” says Gwen Petter, Wilsonart Flooring Director of Design. “Both architects and designers have embraced exotic woods in their latest designs however, it can prove expensive to obtain and challenging to maintain. For example, genuine bamboo can have variations in color and texture, as well as inconsistent overall quality. Laminate, on the other hand, is completely uniform and has consistent wear patterns. Wilsonart is responding to the demand for exotic woods with easy-to-care-for laminates that out performs these natural products.”

Wilsonart currently offers a Hawaiian Bamboo design in the Estate Plus Premium Residential line, and a Tropical Wood design in the Classic line, which is an exotic (more) fusion of Teak, Jatoba and Padauk. Each of these species offers a unique grain structure that would be too repetitive if used individually. By combining the three, you get a balanced visual with the unique qualities of all three woods, making it much more usable to the market. Tropical Wood features dust lines that help incorporate the seam of the wood into the plank, offering a more natural appearance after installation.

“Technology has allowed us to connect to other parts of the world easily and on a regular basis,” says Petter. “There’s never been a time when we are exposed to more varying traditions, culture, foods and trends. This is reflected in the residential and commercial interior design trends. Varying raw materials, fabrics, motifs and color combinations are being used from many cultures to create interior themes, and bamboo is one such material. Both our Hawaiian Bamboo and Tropical Wood designs embrace the Zen philosophy of harmony between people and their environment. These designs typically work well in the West Coast and Southeast regions.”
