Frequently asked questions

How are Wilsonart Planks engineered?

High pressure laminate (HPL) is made through a multi-step process. It begins with layers of kraft paper infused with phenolic resin for durability. On top of this, decorative paper treated with melamine resin adds aesthetics. The layers are then pressed together under high heat, around 300°F, and pressure exceeding 1000 psi, creating a strong bond. The result is a robust, durable, and visually appealing material that’s used in furniture, countertops, and more.

What are the best applications for Wilsonart Planks?

Suggested hospitality applications include lobbies, headboard walls, and bar/restaurant walls. Suggested healthcare applications include lobbies, corridors, and nurses’ stations. Suggested education applications include gymnasiums and corridors. Suggested corporate/office applications include lobbies and meeting rooms. Planks can be used on nearly any wall, and acoustic planks are available for unique sound-proofing applications.

What textured finishes are available for Wilsonart Planks?

Wilsonart HPL features several textures to choose from, and availability may vary per design. For information regarding alternate textures, sizes, and up-charges, please browse the Pattern Availability section of a laminate design detail page to see available finishes.
See the list of all HPL finishes.

How are acoustic Planks unique?

Our acoustic Planks are unique because they combine high-performance sound absorption with stylish design, boasting a Noise Reduction Coefficient (NRC) of 0.9. This means they significantly reduce unwanted noise, making them ideal for spaces that require both aesthetic appeal and acoustic control, like offices, restaurants, or commercial environments.
