The yearning for a connection to nature is a driving force of biophilic design. This inspired Richardson Design to create bespoke furniture pieces that capture an organic feel and demonstrate the power of water to transform our habitat. The intermingling of growth and erosion became the basis for a set of occasional tables that combine the flexibility of HPL woodgrains with the strength of Quartz.

The first step in the kitchen remodel was selecting the countertop material which would serve as the focal point for the space. For the main kitchen and adjacent laundry room, designs from the Wilsonart^® Calacatta Collection were selected including Calacatta Serchio and Calacatta Aquilea, giving the countertops a marble look with the durability of quartz. This set the tone for the rest of the material choices, including Sub-Zero appliances, Jeffrey Court Tile for the backsplash, and Schaub & Company hardware.

Richardson Design’s innovative use of HPL and Quartz created textural, organic formed tables that celebrate the essence of biophilic design.

While HPL is typically known for its durability, it’s also a semi-flexible material that can accommodate dramatic curves and designs. Wood grains and textures in HPL give the look and feel of wood veneer but with greater durability, performance, and lower maintenance. Wilsonart is also committed to conscious craftsmanship with our HPL, which uses on average 23% post-consumer recycled content. That’s 2X more than other leading laminate brands.

In combination with HPL, Quartz slab material gives the look of natural stone without the maintenance or worry of scratches, stains, cracks, or chips. Pushing the boundaries of both HPL and Quartz helped to create furniture pieces that embrace the juxtaposition of nature’s elements.

After ideation, Richardson Design created 3D digital renderings and technical drawings to help fabricators turn their vision into reality. The Wilsonart Technical Team went to work to fabricate the tables and captured the process of the build, demonstrating how custom and complex designs can easily transform into beautiful, one-of-a-kind furniture pieces with the right materials, tools, and guidance.

The result is two stunning tables that celebrate the elements of wood, water, and stone in organic curved lines. The warm brown tones of Wilsonart^® Sap Walnut HPL pair perfectly with the grey hues of Wilsonart^® Logan Pass Quartz with its wispy white veining that traverse the design. The beauty of the pieces is matched by the durability of the materials, which can withstand high touch, high traffic areas in any setting.
